CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Each newly licensed, reinstated, or renewed producer in any of the major lines of Property/Casualty; Life, Accident and Health; or Personal Lines is required to complete 24 credit hours of approved continuing education every two years. Producers are required to complete their CE requirement by their license expiration date.
Of the 24 credit hours, producers are required to take 3 credit hours in Laws, Regulations and Ethics; 6 credit hours in each major line held; and the balance in any type or combination.
The authority held at the beginning of a biennium determines the CE requirements for that license period. Example: If a license for Property & Casualty is held at the beginning of a license period, but is amended to add Life & Health during the license period, the producer need only complete the requirement for P&C. Likewise for dropping a line of authority, the producer must complete the CE requirements for all lines of authority that were held at the beginning of the license period.
Duplicated courses taken during a compliance period will only be awarded once toward a producer’s CE requirement.
Excess credit hours accumulated during a license period are not carried forward to the next license period.
If a producer has not satisfied their CE requirements by their license expiration, the Connecticut Insurance Department will cancel the producer’s license and all company appointments. The producer’s license will not be reinstated until the completion of their CE requirement and payment of double the renewal fee.
Flood Insurance Requirement
Effective August 1, 2007 the Connecticut Insurance Department requires that all licensed Property & Casualty producers attend one 3-hour Flood Insurance Seminar in order to be compliant for their next license renewal. This is a one-time only requirement.
