William P. Simons, IV
President
Simons is senior vice president and owner of Rust Insurance Agency, focusing on association and business insurance. He is a graduate of Emerson College. His experience within the television industry working for CNN, provides a foundation for his regular appearances on Washington DC television stations providing insurance advice to homeowners following major events such as snow, wind and ice storms.
Theodore M. Pappas, CLU, CIC
State National Director
Pappas, president & CEO of The McLaughlin Company, is MWAIIA's State National Director and represents the Board and Association members on the National Board of Directors of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He began his insurance career in 1967 as a life agent. He joined The McLaughlin Company in 1976 and became its president in 1983. Pappas also is vice president of Creative Risk Management, which provides services to clients dealing with insurance companies, as well as offering services beyond insurance. Pappas is a four-time MWAIIA president.
W. Lorenzo Alston, LUTCF
Vice President
Alston is the principal of Alston & Associates Insurance Agency. He is a 1978 graduate of the University of Maryland Business School and started his insurance career the following year. He has earned the LUTCF designation and has served as an MWAIIA Board member for the last eight years. In addition to his work with the Metro Washington Association, Alston is a founding member of the Washington Area Minority Insurance Agents.
M. Kenneth Luhman
Secretary/Treasurer
Luhman is president of Howard Eales, Inc. He has been a member of MWAIIA's Board for the past three years, currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer. He started his insurance career with Allstate Insurance in 1979, and has held various sales, claims and underwriting positions over the past 26 years. Luhman attended Fairfield University and McDaniel College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration/Economics. He is an avid sports enthusiast as well as a Special Olympics volunteer and coach. He is married and the father of two children.
G.L. Jeffreys Green
Immediate Past President
Greene, a manager at the Howard W. Phillips & Company, has been a member of MWAIIA’s Board of Directors for the past five years. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney, Va. Greene’s principal area of practice is commercial insurance, including professional liability. He joined the agency in 1996 and today manages its personal insurance division.
Anthony W. Ambush
Director
Ambush, president and founder of Ambush Associates, has served MWAIIA for as Director, Secretary/Treasurer and, President. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md. in 1973, While in college Ambush excelled in track and field and was named an All-American in 1972. He has 25+ years experience in the insurance industry and is a member of the National African American Insurance Association and the Surety Association of America.
James E. Hamerski, CPCU
Director
Hamerski, executive vice president of Shannon & Luchs Insurance Agency, has been a member of MWAIIA’s Board of Directors for many years, currently serving as Vice President. He has 35 years experience as an insurance agent and is an MWAIIA past president. Hamerski also is a board member of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Society of the District of Columbia and he serves as the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee Chairm
Andrew Howard
Director
Howard, Vice President of Howard Insurance Agency, represents the 3rd generation of his family business and is a graduate of Villanova University. He has been working in the insurance industry since 2001 and specializes in property and casualty insurance. He has served multiple terms on Leadership Councils for several insurance carriers and is a member of the boards of directors of several local nonprofit groups.
Scott M. Hoffman, CIC
Director
Hoffman, treasurer of Howard & Hoffman, a family-owned insurance agency. A 20-year industry veteran, Hoffman has served on the MWAIIA Board of Directors since June 2000 as secretary/treasurer, vice president, president and currently as director of the organization. He is a 1986 graduate of Richmond University and earned his CIC designation in 1996.
Cecil B.J. Lockhart
Director
Lockhart is owner of Lockhart's Insurance Services. He has served on the MWAIIA Board of Directors as a Directors for seven years.
Diane Voit, CPCU
Executive Director
Voit is a former board member and a past president of MWAIIA. A graduate of Penn State University, she has over 25 years of experience in client services, marketing, and training while employed by local, regional and national agencies in the Metropolitan Washington area. Voit is a past board member of the MWAIIA and DC CPCU chapter and is an active volunteer with other nonprofit groups.
