Aubie Knight, CIC
Aubie Knight is the Executive Director of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia. He joined IIAG in 1996 after a four year stint as a successful group health insurance producer with the Mutual of Omaha Companies. Since joining IIAG, he has held key management positions in a number of different areas of IIAG’s operations, including education, errors and omissions, membership and premium finance.
In addition to his role within IIAG’s management, Aubie is widely recognized as a leading instructor of continuing education and pre-licensing classes. On a national level, he has been very involved with the IIABA E&O program, serving a six-year term on the Professional Liability Committee, as well as serving on a number of other working groups and task force related to E&O and loss control.Aubie is a graduate of the University of Georgia and also works with UGA’s Terry College of Business as a part-time instructor of Risk Management and Insurance courses. Outside of insurance and risk management, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE) and is a 2009 graduate of GSAE’s Leadership Academy.
Aubie and his wife Dana live in Madison, Georgia, with their five daughters ranging in age from 4-14. In his spare time, he enjoys working out and participating in sprint triathlons and road races.
An Atlanta native attended the City of Decatur Schools and graduated with a BBA degree from the University of Georgia with a major in Real Estate in 1970. Worked for Fannie Mae (Federal National Mortgage Association) from 1970 t0 1975. While there received extensive mortgage banking and appraisal training. He was also involved with the development of Fannie Mae’s condominium and planned unit development financing programs. Fannie Mae is now the leading provider of condominium financing in the country.
He entered the insurance industry with his family’s agency 1976 and quickly became very involved with IIAG serving as Chairman of numerous committees and served as State President of IIAG 2005-2006.David is now associated with BWT Risk Advisors in John’s Creek Georgia.
Gould Hagler heads the governmental affairs department of the Inde3pendent Insurance Agents of Georgia and serves as its lobbyist. Gould has worked in the field of association managment and legislative affairs since 1976, holding various positions with the Georgia General Assembly, the Council of State Governments, and the Medical Association of Georgia. He has been with the Independent Agents sinc 1987, and was Executive Director from 1995-2010. In 2010 Gould stepped down as Exec in order to devote his full attention to the association's legislative work.
During Mr. Hagler's tenure with the Independent Agents, the association twice received top national awards from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. IIAG was recognized as the Outstanding State ASsociation of the Year (1998) and won the award for the best governmental affairs program in (2001). He has been ranked one of the top ten lobbyist in Georgia by James Magazine every year since 2008.
Mr. Hagler is a native of Augusta. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University (B.A., 1972) and Georgia State University (M.S., 1976).
Robbie is a second generation Atlanta native. She holds a BBA in accounting from Georgia State University with a minor in finance. Robbie entered the insurance business in 1989 with my husband, David Lewis, and was President of the DeKalb Association before we merged with the Atlanta Association to form the Metro Association. She is currently on the Board of IIAG as a Director at Large, and sits on the Personal Lines Committee and Governmental Affairs Committee. She is currently associated with BWT Risk Advisors in John’s Creek, GA.
Lisa Wetherton grew up in Atlanta, Georgia attending Cross Keys High School and Georgia State University. She started her insurance career with The Bankers Life of Des Moines, Iowa (which is now The Principal Financial Group) in 1979. She became a broker in 1986 when she joined Tom Flournoy at Boger, Reid & Flournoy. Lisa is now the Group Marketing Director for The Palmer Agency, a general agency that helps brokers find the right life, disability and group products for their agents.
Lisa is past president of both the Atlanta and Georgia Associations of Health Underwriters. She has served on the regional level of the National Association of Health Underwriters as Legislative, Education and Membership Chairs. She has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award and Presidential Citations by NAHU, Kathy Cruce Award and Presidential Award by GAHU, and the Patty Murphy and Board Member of the Year Awards by the Atlanta chapter. She lives on Lake Lanier where she enjoys boating with her husband, children and grandchildren
Marie Ellen Marion, ACSR, AAI
Ellen Marion has been an insurance professional for 30 years. She began her career as an insurance underwriter for Prudential Property and Casualty. In 1994, after raising children, she rejoined the insurance industry as an underwriter for First of Georgia Insurance Group. When FOG re-located, Ellen began working in independent insurance agencies in Augusta, Georgia.
With another decade of both personal and commercial lines experience behind her, she began teaching property and casualty pre-licensing courses at the local technical college. She has been teaching various property and casualty continuing education classes for Independent Insurance Agents of GA since 2005.In 2007, she joined the staff of IIAG as Errors and Omissions Administrator. Her expertise in underwriting and loss control makes her an asset to IIAG.
Rob is a Special Investigation Unit Manager with the Nationwide Special Investigation Unit. He works out of Winter Springs, FL, but covers the entire state. He has been with Nationwide since 1993. He co-manages 14 Special Investigators handling all lines including personal property and casualty as well as commercial and workers compensation. Rob also oversees all Major Case investigations in Florida.
Prior to that Rob was with Allstate Insurance Company where his title was Security Analyst. He started with Allstate in 1986 and left to go with Nationwide Insurance in 1993. At Allstate Insurance Company he performed semi-annual reviews of 16 claim offices and supervised the activities of 11 investigators throughout Florida.
Rob began his investigative career with the Florida Department of Corrections as a Correctional Probation Special Investigator II in 1980. His primary focus was to conduct presentence investigations on convicted felons and act as a court liaison officer advising judges on matters pertaining to probation and parole.
Rob graduated from the University of Florida in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Communications. He is past president of the Central Florida Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units and is a Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI).
Steve Heinen, AAI, CWCP
Steve graduated from The University of Georgia with a BBA in Risk Management. He has served on IIAG's Commercial lines committee since 1989, having chaired it for four years. He is an Associate Director of the Gainesville Hall County Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Trustees for Gainesville College.
Steve spent two years as an Underwriter for The Hartford Insurance Company, and worked at Turner Wood and Smith/HRH in Gainesville, for 23 years. He is now President of Risk Managment, Inc and has done projects for the Georgia Insurance Department, State Board of Workers' Compensation, the National Council on Compensation Insurance and Numerous Self Insureds throughout the state.
Steve also administers the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation Claim Management Training program. He was named as Insurance Man of the Year 1992 and 1997 and 2003 and received an Independent Agents Association of Georgia Past Presidents Award, Presidents Citation, Exceptional Service Award and serves as the Co-chair SAWCA Claims Committee.
Robin Ferici, CPCU, AAI, ARM, AINS, AIS, CPIW
Robin Federic is the founder and president of Insurance Education & Training Associates, LLC, headquartered in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. IETA is a provider of CE approved P & C insurance educational programs.
Robin formed IETA in 2003, after serving the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island for sixteen years, first as Director of Education and subsequently as Assistant Executive Vice President. This followed a lengthy career in both underwriting and sales with insurance agencies and companies.
She is a much sought-after speaker and educator and recently completed a one-year consulting position as the author of the new Swiss Re E&O seminar.
In addition to presenting seminars and workshops on a broad range of topics, Robin is a certified instructor for the Swiss Re Errors & Omissions program. She facilitates the Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designation program and the Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI) designation program, and several parts of the CISR designation program.
Robin is a technical insurance and agency management expert with the IIABA Virtual University. This role, coupled with her extensive background in both the agency and company ranks and her love of teaching, adds a unique dimension and immediate and practical value to the programs she presents to insurance professionals.
Tamara Gatson received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University located in Downtown Atlanta. Her career in insurance begin at a local independent agency where she worked in the personal lines department. She continued her education and obtained a MBA from Keller University. She attended Real Estate School and obtained her registered appraiser license in 2002. In 2005, she started the Tamara Gatson Agency, a captive agency located in Conyers, GA.
In 2007, she opened the first insurance training institute in Conyers,called Gatson Training Associates. She currently holds the following insurance licenses: Property & Casualty, Life/Accident/Sickness, Series 6, Series 63, and Variable license.
Tamara is actively involved in her community and currently serves on the board of Reach for Star Mentor ship Program . She is also a volunteer with Hands on Atlanta. She currently resides in Metro Atlanta with her husband Durmon and daughter Kaylei.
Tammy Goodman is Territory Manager for Selective Flood Operations for the states of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Selective is IIABA’s endorsed WYO. With Tammy’s twenty years of experience in all disciplines of the NFIP she has proven to be invaluable in underwriting, technical, marketing and training. Her background as an independent agent gives her an advantage with company/agent relations on flood insurance – she’s been in your position.
Tammy is responsible for field underwriting, marketing and agent training in her assigned states and is ready to help your agency as a participant of Big “I” Flood. She has presented many flood insurance seminars and is available for FIRA Agent CE training either in classroom situations or at agent offices.
Tammy is an avid NASCAR fan and attends as many races as she can throughout the Southeast. She lives with her husband and three teenage daughters outside of Columbia, SC.
Sam graduated in 1973 from Georgia Southwestern College with a degree in History. He worked as a Sales representative for Sentry Insurance for three years before becoming Vice President of The Surety Group, Inc of Atlanta, GA and holding that position for twenty-two years. He has since served as President for a total of seven years. Sam is the incoming Secretary/Treasurer for the Independent Agents of GA Atlanta Chapter and is currently serving on the Legislative committee for a National Insurance Trade Association. He also sits on the Board of Directors for GIADA.
Mike Jones, CPCU, ARM, AAI
Mike graduated from Spring Hill College, with a B.S. Degree in English Literature. He is an Insurance professional, agent/broker, agency owner, author, teacher and international speaker. His background includes insurance technical knowledge, marketing and sales skills, agency operations experience, university classroom competency, writing aptitude and presentation talents.
Mike began his career as an underwriter for Gulf Insurance Group.and Agent-Consultant with C.A.R. Risk Management and Insurance, and ultimately became agency owner there in 1976. He also co-founded Car Insurance Center in 1990. Mike is now founder of Mike Jones & Associates, Inc.
Mike served as President of Georgia Chapter of CPCU in 1980, President of The Atlanta Association of Ind. Ins. Agents in 1982, and also served on the Travelers National Agents Advisory Council in 1982. He served on the AAI Advisory Committee for the Institutes of America in 1987, and on the Education Committee for Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia in 1987. He was named President of Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia in 1988.
Mike received the prestigious Herman Hass Award for service to the insurance industry in 2000, and received the CPCU Leadership recognition award in 2011. He was also awarded a designation as an Outstanding Course Leader in 2004 by the Insurance Institute of America. Mike teaches at Georgia State University, College of Business Administration, Department of Risk Management and Insurance and adjunct faculty since 1976.
Andy Siegel, CPCU, CIC, AAI
Andy graduated in 1984 from the University of Georgia with a BBA in Risk Management & Insurance and holds an MBA in Insurance from The College of Insurance in New York, NY. He has held the position as President of Siegel Insurance, Inc. since 1985. He served as President of The Atlanta Association of Independent Agents in 1995/1996. He sat on the Board of Directors of AAIIA from 1991 through 1997, and as Senior Director of AAIIA in 2001. He was on the Board of Directors for the Young Agents Committee of Georgia from 1991 through 1998, The Personal Lines Technical Committee from 1994 til present, and as Chairman in 1998. He has also served as the Technology Committee Chairman since 1997.
