DOI Issues a Special Alert to Georgia Licensees on Renewal Processing Times
Due to recent legislative changes involving the Citizenship verification that is now required for all licensees at renewal, renewal processing in Georgia is backlogged and behind schedule.
Please know that the Department and its vendor are working diligently to ensure all renewals are processed before December 31.
However if there are renewals that have been submitted and not processed by December 31st – the Department will continue processing these renewals until all have been updated.
We are asking Insurers and companies to be patient as the delay in a licensee being able to provide a copy of their new license card is not necessarily their fault at this point due to this time delay with renewal processing.

Individual License Expiration Dates Moving to Birth Month Expiration and Two Year Renewal
Effective with this year’s license renewal, individual license expiration dates will be changing from a fixed expiration date of December 31 to the last day of the licensee’s birth month. In addition to the change in expiration dates for individual licenses, the renewal term for all licenses will be for two (2) years. Therefore each applicant for renewal will be required to pay a two-year renewal fee.
Due to the change from fixed date expiration to birth month expiration, some individual licensees may receive a renewed license for a term lesser or greater than 24 months. The Department will be prorating fees for this year’s transition to a two-year renewal to address this one-time conversion effort. The prorated renewal fee will be included on your license renewal notice.
Continuing education requirements for the 2012 license renewal cycle will be unchanged. The next renewal cycle, in approximately two years, will require licensees to complete two-years worth of continuing education.
Another important change with this year’s renewal is the requirement for licensees to submit a notarized Citizenship Affidavit Form (GID-276-EN) attesting to either United States citizenship or lawful presence. A copy of the required form, along with instructions for completing the form, can be downloaded from
the Georgia Insurance Department’s website.
