IOWA'S YOUNG AGENTS
IIAI maintains a standing committee which consists solely of young agents. Their function is to develop and/or maintain programs or services that are of specific interest to those under the age of 40. This committee is responsible to conduct a conference geared especially for Iowa's young agents.
As a young agent, you need exposure to information, knowledge, and resources to be more successful as an insurance professional. IIAI recognizes that young agents are the future of the industry. We, therefore, have a vested interest in your success. Under the direction of the Young Agents Committee, IIAI develops programs and activities that specifically address the needs and concerns of young agents, as well as promotes the advancement of all independent insurance professionals.
Young Agent Activities - In an effort to bring together young agents from throughout the state and provide important networking opportunities, the IIAI Young Agents Committee sponsors various events throughout the year and hold an Annual Young Agents Conference each spring (please refer to the IIAI calendar for more information).
The Young Agents Mentoring Program. This is a new program created by the Young Agents Committee that was started in 2005 and is available to any member of the association. It is intended for young agents and those new to the business. The program allows for agents to counsel with other agents (i.e. mentors) on a confidential basis regarding agency management, agency buy-in and perpetuation plans, the purchase of an agency, mergers, acquisitions, and any other pertinent information. The mentors will provide guidance and support, and help bridge any gaps and answer any questions. Many experienced and successful Big "I" member agents have agreed to serve as a mentor. Things to note about the program: the mentors will not provide insurance legal advice, there is no charge for the program and the mentors agree to keep all conversations confidential. If you are interested in contacting a mentor, call the IIAI office at (800) 272-9312.
