History
Founding
KAIA was formed in 1920 and represents over 550 independent agencies and branches with nearly 2,500 employees statewide. Its members are small businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents offer all lines of insurance – property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit plans and retirement products.
Affiliations
On September 1, 1992, the Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas (PIAK) and the Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas (IIAK) joined together. The Association is no longer affiliated with the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) and is currently affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA).
Mission Statement
Provide professional development;
Meet the business needs of independent agents in Kansas;
Represent their interests before government and regulatory bodies;
Encourage integrity and high ethical standards;
Provide insurance information to members and public through a private, non-profit, member-driven association.
