Certified Insurance Counselor
What is the CIC Program?
The CIC designation signifies a high level of professional education and a commitment to a course of continuing education. Persons who earn the CIC designation have indicated they recognize the need for practical insurance education through their careers as insurance professionals.
The CIC designation is earned by attending five, two and a half day institutes, including Life and Health, Commercial Property, Commercial Casualty, Personal Lines and Agency Management. At the conclusion of each institute, a rigorous examination must be passed. You must take all five CIC institutes, and pass all five examinations within five calendar years after passing the first exam.
The designation is awarded by officials of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors at conferment ceremony during MAIA's Small Agency Conference.
Once you attain the CIC designation, you must be a dues-paying member of the Society and attend at least one CIC program annually to update. Note: any "tenured CICs" can maintain their designation by paying CIC dues every year and attending a qualified program every other year. The recognition of "tenured" has been granted to CICs who have met the following criteria: 1. Held the designation for 25 or more years; 2. OR CICs who have not held the designation for 25+ years, but are 70 years old or older; 3. Designation is in good standing; 4. AND membership dues are current |
