Agribusiness Conference to be held in Kansas
The Agribusiness Farm Insurance Specialist Conference will be hosted by the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents in Wichita, Kan., August 16-17. Members who are interested in attending can click here to get more information.

NFIP extension passed, flood maps change
On June 30, 2010, the U.S. Senate followed House action and passed a retroactive extension of the National Flood Insurance Program through September 30. Once President Obama signs the bill into law, the NFIP will return to normal operations. IIABA is still pushing for a long-term extension of the NFIP.
    In related news, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in the process of updating flood maps, affecting nine Missouri counties. Click here and select  chapter/section No. 1E to access FEMA's website to view map changes.

Proposed grandfather rules released for health care
On June 14, 2010, the Obama administration released proposed rules for the grandfather plan that is part of the federal health care insurance reform. The administration requested comments on the rules, which may still change. A summary of the provisions is also available on the HHS website. Click here to view an IIABA release with timelines for agents and their clients that outline the implementation of changes to take place.


Red Flags Rule enforcement delayed
Enforcement of the Red Flags Rule, a federal law that requires creditors with certain kinds of accounts to implement a program to detect and prevent identity theft, has been delayed until Dec. 31. The rule was previously scheduled to take effect June 1, 2010.
