Technical Issues Make us your home page/bookmark our site Tired of typing in our address all the time? You can use the Home Page, Favorite or Bookmark feature of your browser to save yourself some time. This will work for any other web page as well. Internet Explorer: Home Page On the top menu bar, click on "Tools" -> "Internet Options". Under the "General" tab, the first box allows you to enter the URL for a home page. Type in the following: http://www.iian.org Click OK.
Internet Explorer: Adding a Favorite On the top menu bar, click on "Favorites" and select "Add to Favorites." Type in the name you want to use for the bookmark (IIAN will work fine) and click "OK."
Netscape: Home Page On the top menu bar, select "Edit" -> "Preferences." When "Navigator" is selected in the box on the left, the second box on the right allows you to enter a URL for your home page. Type in the following: http://www.iian.org Click OK.
Netscape: Using Bookmarks - Hit Control + D on your keyboard, OR
On the top menu bar, click on "Bookmarks" and select "Bookmark This Page."
Return to Top of Page How to log in to the website To take advantage to many of the great members-only features IIAN offers, and register online for conventions and education events, you must log in. You received a User ID and Password in a mailing from IIAN, or if you're a new member, when you joined. If you've lost it, don't worry -- we'll get to that. Step One: Button, button... Locate the Member Login button in the top left corner of the page. You can log in from any page on the IIAN website. Click on the button and a login page will load. 
Step Two: Your User ID and Password Enter your User ID and Password in the appropriate spaces and click the "Login" button. If you've lost this information, click on the link reading "Don't Know Login." You'll be asked to enter your e-mail address, and your User ID and password will be e-mailed to you, provided that your e-mail address was entered into the Active Directory. If you don't receive your User ID and password via e-mail, don't panic. Just e-mail webmaster@biginebraska.org and we'll re-set it for you within 24 hours. "Can I change my User ID?" Unfortunately, no. These are set by the National Association's computer, and are formatted to maintain database integrity. "Can I change my Password?" Absolutely. Read below for more details. 
Step Three: Success! Once you've logged in, the page you were viewing will re-load (see image below). Members-only content will now be visible to you. You can also access Active Directory -- read on for details.

Return to Top of Page Using Active Directory What is Active Directory? Active Directory (AD for short) is a web-based interface that any member agent can use to update their data in the National Association's database. It's not fully integrated with our state database just yet, so it's a good idea to e-mail any information changes to us at office@biginebraska.org as well, just to make sure you don't miss any important mailings. AD is a fledgling technology and still has a few bugs, but it's pretty intuitive once you've run through it once or twice. As always, feel free to e-mail any questions to webmaster@biginebraska.org. Step One: Logging in to Active Directory To get to AD, you have to be logged in to the website -- see the tutorial above if you need help with this step. After you've logged in, the button in the top left corner of the page will look something like this (with your first name instead of "Example"): 
Place the cursor over "[Your Name]'s Info" and click on it. A pop-up window will open: 
This is a technological hiccup, and may be fixed sometime in the future, but it's not difficult to work around. Copy the User ID displayed (it may even be the same one you use to log in to the website), and then click on the word "here" (underlined and in blue or purple) above the User ID. A dialog box will pop up: 
Enter the User ID you copied from the previous pop-up window, and the password that you use to log in to the website. If your browser supports it, and if you choose to, you can save the password in a list. Click on the "OK" button. It may take a moment to load, but you should see the following after a few seconds: 
Congratulations! You're logged in. If you are an agency administrator, you will have the option to manage your own information (the first box) or manage your agency's information (the second box.) Step Two: Managing Your Information If you click on the first box, you'll see something like this: 
You can change any of the fields with a white background. Be sure to click "Save" when you're done. Step Three (Optional): Changing Your Password To change your password, click on the "Change Password" button toward the top middle of the page. You'll be asked to enter a new password and confirm it. Please note that all passwords must be at least six characters long. For maximum password security we recommend the following steps: Do not share your password with anybody. Do not keep your password in an easily-visible place. Do not use any easy-to-guess words or numbers in your password. (Ex: first, middle, or last names; birth dates; social security numbers; phone numbers; addresses.) Consider using a password that combines letters and numbers.
How many of these steps you follow is completely up to you; we urge you to keep security in mind. Step Four: Changing Agency Information Only an agency administrator can change an agency's information. If you aren't an administrator, you'll only be able to change your personal information (as outlined in the step above.) To go about getting administrative privileges, talk to the Active Directory administrator in your office. If one hasn't been assigned, e-mail webmaster@biginebraska.org. To change your agency's information, either click on the second box right after logging into active directory, or click on the folder icon with an arrow pointing up in the top left corner of the page showing your information. Either method will take you to a page like this: 
All of the users in your agency will be listed under the "Users" tab. If you have any branch agencies, they will be listed in the "Child Organizations" Tab. To change your agency's information, click on the "properties" tab. It's very similar to changing your personal information, as in Step Two above. Be sure to click save when you're done. To add a user, click on the "add user icon" in the pink bar toward the top of the page: 
You'll be asked to enter a name and a password (which your new user can change on their own later, using the steps above). Please be sure to spell it right, as it's used to create the User ID and can't be changed once entered. A checkbox will give you the option to make the new user an organizational administrator (which gives them permission to change the agency's information), and another checkbox will allow you to manage the user after clicking "Submit." We suggest selecting this option. Once the new request has been successfully submitted, a box similar to that in Step Two above will open. Here, you can enter address details (or tell it to use the agency's contact information), e-mail address, and other pertinent information. That's it! You're now equipped with basic Active Directory skills. We encourage all of our agents to keep their information in the Active Directory up-to-date, as it's used in the "Find An Agent" feature on the national website. If you're not receiving E-Bulletin, you're missing out on important updates from IIAN and we want to make sure the problem gets fixed right away. Here are a couple steps you can take to get back on track: 1. E-mail the webmaster (webmaster@biginebraska.org) and let us know if you're not receiving electronic communications. Make sure to include your full name, the name of your agency, and your agency's physical address as well as any e-mail addresses that should be subscribed. 2. If you use a spam-blocker, add us to your "approved" list. Set your spam-blocker to allow e-mails from webmaster@biginebraska.org and allagents@biginebraska.org to reach your inbox. (If you're not in charge of your spam filter, please ask your IT person to add this to the accepted list.)

Having trouble with a document in the E-Bulletin? Many of the publications IIAN makes available to its members (for example, the MarshBerry letter) are in .pdf format. This format is used because it saves download time and ensures consistent formatting between viewers. You can read .pdf files with Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for free download (Adobe Website). Once you've downloaded it and installed it, you'll be able to read these documents as well as a number of other electronic forms and publications. Return to Top of Page Tips for avoiding viruses Chances are that you or somebody you know has been hit by a computer virus. At their very best, they're a nuisance. At the very worst, they could end up costing your agency thousands and thousands of dollars. Preventing infection is becoming more and more complex, but there are a few simple steps you can take to increase your security. Note: If your company has an IT person, we suggest you install any of the software suggested below. They may already have taken care of it. 1. Make sure you're running a virus scanner. (Your IT person will be able to tell you if you're not sure.) If you don't have one, talk with your IT person about getting one. There are many different pieces of software out there that will get the job done. Norton and Macafee are both trusted brands with self-updating features. 2. Never, ever, ever open an attachment unless you were expecting it and know who it is from. Modern viruses send e-mails that look like they're from somebody you know, but with attachments that can destroy your computer and cripple your network. When in doubt, e-mail or telephone the sender and ask about it before you open it. 3. Be careful about the software you install. If you've downloaded a piece of software that looks too good to be true, it probably is. Likewise, if the site is sketchy, the software probably is, too. They can contain viruses, or even code that can be used to harvest information to steal your identity or abuse your company's network. Use your virus scanner to scan all software before you install it. 4. Make sure your version of Windows is up-to-date. Ask your IT person before installing any additional software.
