Non-Resident Licensing

Individual Agent Licenses

  • The applicant must have a producers license from their home state and be listed on the NAIC’s ‘NIPR’ database.
  • Applicants for a NM non-resident license can prove they are licensed in their home state by:
  • Sending a letter of certification from their home state Department of Insurance with their non-resident application, (or)
  • Going to the NIPR database on the NAIC website (naic.org and click on the NIPR logo on the home page) and obtaining a screenprint of their registration.  Applicants can do this by going into the ‘producer’ menu within NIPR and choosing “national producer number access” and filling out the information requested (social security number or producer license number).
  • Send in the application with the evidence of home-state licensure and appropriate fees.  (All requirements and fees are listed for each state on the NIPR site along with a copy of the application form.)

Corporate Licenses

Download and complete the NAIC Uniform application.

Surplus Lines Licenses

  • New Mexico now has a non-resident Surplus Lines Brokers license.  The form can be downloaded from the NM Insurance Division website located at: www.nmprc.state.nm.us/insurance/inshm.htm
  • This license also requires proof of a home state producer’s license (same procedure as individual license above for proof of licensure.)
