The State of Nevada is geographically situated so as to serve as the crossroads for the southwestern area of the United States. As an inland state, we are protected from the violence of hurricanes that plague those on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Tornado Alley is further east, so Nevadans by and large feel safe and secure.

Although it’s true that Nevada is blessed to be a state with one of the lowest incidents of natural disasters, we are not immune to such threats.  Indeed, they can occur at almost any time of the year.  The flood damage to Fernley, Reno and Las Vegas, and the wildfires in the mountains in the Northern area of the State are good examples of natural disasters that have hit communities recently with devastating results.  Many communities have suffered major set- backs at the hands of mother nature this decade.
