The MidWinter is an annual event in which the IIABO brings in a nationally recognized instructor who conducts two days of first class continuing education. This year Mike Edwards, CPCU, AAI came to Oregon. Mike is a native of Panama City, FL and his early experiences making up fish stories proved excellent preparation for teaching insurance later in life. Mike is a faculty member for the IIABA Virtual University. He also has had articles published by the CPCU Society and the National Association of Insurance Women.
Day one of the MidWinter brought some of the most frequently asked Personal Lines and Commercial Lines questions that come up in seminars, industry journals and everday dealings with insureds. For each of the questions in the seminar, students had the opportunity to discuss possible answers or solutions to coverage problems. The text included reference information on the Top PL / CL Questions.
Day two provided two 3 hour classes. The morning took a look at a wide range of issues and situations involving kids, parents and insurance.
The final 3 hour class “When Fools Fall in Love - How Romance Can Screw Up Your Insurance" was a Personal Lines case study seminar that examined a number of insurance issues that arise out of love and romance and identified potential coverage gaps and recommended appropriate solutions.
While spouses/significant others were earning up to 12hrs of continuing education with Mike, their partners where enjoying a culinary experience at the Pacific Coast Center for the Culinary Arts hosted by the IIABO staff. The Center is committed to teaching time-tested methods and skills, with special attention to strengthening the connections between farmers, fishermen, and other producers and the consumer.
