2008 National Legislative Conference

Six representatives from the IIABO joined over 1,200 Independent Insurance Agents for the IIABA Legislative Conference in Washington DC, April 2-3, 2008.  Oregon was represented by IIABO President Jim Ginger (KPD Insurance), VP Bradd Hill (Chet Hill Insurance), First VP John Timm (Timmco Insurance), National Director Debbie Krambeal (CAL/OR Insurance), Board Member Brian Wilbur (Pacific Insurance Partners) and Executive Director Jim Perucca.  This is the largest insurance lobbying event held in the Capitol!

Calls were made to the offices of every Oregon representative in Congress and private meetings were held with Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith.  Issues discussed were:

  • Agent License Reform
  • Optional Federal Charter (OFC)
  • McCarran-Ferguson Repeal
  • Flood Insurance

Before the lobbying day on the Hill, agents attended the kick off breakfast and heard from House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).  Both commended the agents for their involvement in the legislative arena and commended the IIABA for their influence in determining legislation important to the Independent Insurance Agents.

More information on the conference can be found at the IIABA website, www.iiaba.net.
