These Big “I” logo usage rules for Big “I” state associations and agency members are necessary to ensure consistency in branding and trademark protection of the logo. The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Inc. (“Association”) has extensive experience successfully protecting its other trademarks, like the Trusted Choice® name and logo, and doing so for this logo is just as important.

The Big “I” logo is designed to represent the association as an entity and the Trusted Choice® logo is designed to brand independent insurance agents to consumers.

The rules below will guide you through the requirements to assure consistent and permissible use of the Big “I” logo, for the best branding value and use in a manner to enable the Big “I” to be able to appropriately protect the logo’s trademark, such as from misuse, infringement and dilution. There are usage examples at the end of these rules to demonstrate how the logo can be used.

  1. Trademark Symbol: After each use of the Big “I” logo, whether in text, signage, marketing materials, Web sites or other places, the trademark registration symbol must be used as shown in the examples below.
     
  2. Color: The primary version of the Big “I” logo is two‐color, using blue (only Pantone 287; CMYK 100C, 79M, OY, OK; RGB 15R, 35G, 140B or Web 0R, 0G and 153B) for the eagle and the swoop, and black for the type. When it is preferable or necessary to use a single color for the Big “I” logo, such as for a very small version of it, the logo can be all blue (in the colors specified above), black or white. For more formal occassions, the logo many be printed in silver (Pantone 877) or silver foild stamping may be used. (Gold is not permitted.) When the Big “I” logo appears on something that is made of a different color, like a leather keychain, lapel pin, portfolio, etc., the logo can be engraved or embossed on the item without adding any color.
     
  3. Size: The Big “I” logo must be at least 0.3125” high, and can be enlarged from that size proportionally. The tagline can only be used for logos at least 0.75” high and must be scaled proportionally.
     
  4. Clear Space: Other visual elements or symbols must be separated from the Big “I” logo by a distance equal to at least 1x the height of the large “I” in the Big “I” logo, with the distance measured from the outermost point on each side of the logo.
     
  5. Tagline: The tagline “The Trusted Choice®” can be used with the Big “I” logo only by Trusted Choice® agency members, and Big “I” agencies can only become members of Trusted Choice® by signing the Trusted Choice® License Agreement. Big “I” agency members who are not Trusted Choice® agencies can only use the Big “I” logo without the tagline. A tagline can be used with the logo only if the logo is at least 0.75” high.
     
  6. Customization: Big “I” state associations have the option of including the state association name below the Big “I” logo in the space that the Trusted Choice® tagline would otherwise appear, in which case, the Trusted Choice® tagline cannot also be used on that logo. Big “I” agency members have the option of including the agency name below the Big “I” logo in the space that the Trusted Choice® tagline would otherwise appear, in which case, the Trusted Choice® tagline cannot also be used on that logo. The only customized taglines that can be used with the Big “I” logo are: i) for a state association or a wholly owned subsidiary of it, the name of the state association entity using the logo; and ii) for an agency member, the agency name of the member. If a customized tagline is used with the Big “I” logo, it must be centered below the logo. To center a customized tagline, start with the 0.75” high version of the logo and add the permitted customized name (in Myriad Pro – Semibold, 6 point) with a distance from the outer edge of the bottom of the swoop equal to the size of the “I” in Independent, and center the customized tagline from the farthest left edge of the swoop to the farthest right edge of the “t” in Independent). Then increase everything proportionally until the desired size of the logo/tagline is reached.
     
  7. Good Will and Reputation: The Big “I” logo can only be used in a manner that is professional, consistent with maintaining the Association’s good will and reputation. The Big “I” logo cannot be used in any way that is false or misleading, mischaracterizes the relationship between the Association and the party displaying the logo, or violates any law/regulation/ordinance or the rights of others.
     
  8. Use in Multiple States: Big “I” agency members with one or more offices in different states can use the Big “I” logo only in states in which the agency is a Big “I” member.
     
  9. Other Important Information: The Big “I” logo is the sole and exclusive property of the Association, and it extends a limited, revocable license to Big “I” state associations and agency members in good standing with the association to use the Big “I” logo in accordance with these rules. The Association expressly reserves the right to revoke the right of any party to use the Big “I” logo if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the use is inconsistent with the requirements and/or spirit of these rules, is otherwise not in the best interest of the Association or for other good cause. Use of the Big “I” logo by any party creates no rights in or to the Big “I” logo other than the limited, revocable license described in these rules. These rules are subject to change by the Association, in its sole discretion, and any changes will be posted on the Big “I” Web site, and notice of the posting will be provided. Any individual waiver by the Association of any of these rules is only for the waived instance, and shall not be considered a continuing waiver of rules or a waiver of the rules for any party other than the one granted the waiver.
