Jason Priest

Jason was installed as Young Agents Committee Chair at the 112^th IIAV Annual Convention held June 20-23, 2010 at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel in Virginia Beach.  His three year term started July 1, 2010.  He will also serve as the Young Agents liaison on the IIAV Board of Directors.

Jason graduated from Ferrum College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Business Program with an emphasis in Marketing, Management and Decision Support System.  During his time at Ferrum College, Jason was very active on campus.  He served as Senior Class President and was also the President of his fraternity, Theta Chi Epsilon.

Upon graduation, Jason began his career in the insurance industry.  He started as a personal lines underwriter with Atlantic Specialty Lines.  After a short break from the insurance industry, Jason came back into it on the agency side by joining Virginia Commonwealth Corporation in 2006. While going through IIAV’s Associate in Insurance Production Program (AIP), Jason became heavily involved with IIAV especially with the Young Agents program.  Being part of this group allowed Jason to gain a wealth of knowledge that has helped him become a successful independent agent.

Jason was born and raised in Virginia.  He enjoys spending time with his family & friends and enjoying all the state has to offer.  Jason especially loves outdoor activities such as; mountain biking, hiking, camping and being out on the water.  When it comes to sports, Jason is a big Virginia Tech football and Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Jason brings an immense amount of talent and energy to the young agents and is excited about continuing the growth and development of this group. Don’t hesitate to contact Jason with any suggestions you might have.

The Young Agents Committee serves as the unified voice for all young agents in Virginia and as the connection which perpetuates the future of the independent insurance agency system.  They meet approximately 4 times a year at the IIAV headquarters and develop means in which young insurance professionals can interact with each other resulting in successful career paths and growth for their agencies.  Contact Committee Liaison's Kristina Preisner. 

Why Get Involved?

"When I was 16 years old, I don't even know if I knew what insurance was. My parents got me an old car and down the road I went.  What a different mindset I'm in these days.  I am the youngest in my agency and have often felt a million miles from everyone else because of my lack of experience. That all changed when I joined the Young Agents Committee.

Being around people my age that are in the same business gives me the opportunity to network and learn from the least "intimidating" in the business. Once you find your confidence, you feel like there is nothing you can't help people with.  At 20 years old I started in this business, scared to death. The Young Agents Committee has helped me be more confident, and here I am, 6 years later, able to work with people to help find the best solution for their insurance needs. A day rarely goes by that I don't receive some kind of gratification with the career path I took, and I would recommend it to anyone."
