InVEST FAQ

Q. What is InVEST?

A. InVEST is an insurance education program that introduces students to basic business skills and insurance career opportunities. By providing insurance education to students, the local insurance industry benefits by cultivating a pool of potential recruits.

Q. Where are InVEST classes taught?

A. InVEST classes are taught in high schools and community colleges nationwide. The InVEST program can be implemented and tailored for any community’s needs and also serve as an outreach for national companies and local agents.

Q. How does InVEST get started in a local community?

A. Generally, local agents and teachers initiate the program in their community. Agents see the curriculum as a consumer education tool as well as an avenue for potential recruitment of qualified students for their agency or the industry in general. Teachers view the curriculum as a way to teach valuable business skills to interested students so they develop real life skills for a future position inside or outside of the insurance industry.

Q. How is the local InVEST program maintained?

A. A local InVEST committee, comprised of industry professionals and school administrators, supports and evaluates the program. The committee acts as a liaison between the school and the insurance industry, making recommendations on facility organization and selecting educational materials. The committee also serves as an advisory board that counsels both the business education staff and school administration. Industry members of the committee also help train the teachers on the insurance industry. They also arrange off-site program activities like job shadowing, field trips, and part-time job/internship opportunities for the students.

Q. What is the typical InVEST student like?

A. There is no typical InVEST student. The InVEST program is full of a diverse group of students from rural, urban and suburban communities with over 50 percent minority population.

Q. How does the curriculum improve the students¹ knowledge about the insurance industry?

A. InVEST is proud of our hands-on approach to teaching a true School-to-Work model. By using simulations, students are taught through a mock agency and company setting that helps them to directly apply the skills they have learned in the classroom. Since there is support from local agencies and other members of the insurance community, students get the opportunity to see how their education is applied in the real world.

Q. What makes InVEST different from other education programs?

A. InVEST is the only education program that strengthens the insurance industry by attracting a large pool of qualified insurance recruits.
