Liaisons & Agents

InVEST liaisons – insurance carriers and independent agents and brokers – provide teachers and students with insight, opportunities, internships, encouragement and an intriguing glimpse into the real world of the insurance industry. Serving as the necessary bridge between the local school systems and the insurance industry, InVEST liaisons are our “secret to success.”

Valuable things industry liaisons provide to InVEST:

  • Classroom assistance
Structured guidance, technical expertise, lectures, hands-on workshops, industry stories and good insight have allowed our students to gain an insurance perspective from experts in the industry.
  • Job placement activities and internships
These activities have opened up student’s eyes. They say, “Wow, I can really do this for a living,” rather than, “I don’t know what I want to do with my life.”
  • Field trips
Students and teachers alike love the field trips, because they are exciting, educational and provide a necessary breath of fresh air. It seems they always come back from a field trip even more motivated.

Become a part of InVEST – a program that allows you to work locally in your own community with a diverse group of students. You’ll have fun, access a talented group of recruits for your business and gain friendships along the way.

To learn more about becoming an InVEST liaison, contact InVEST Program Manager Sandra Skipper at Sandra.Skipper@IIABA.net or (703) 706-5437.

Valuable things InVEST provides to industry liaisons:

  • Internship Guide
Staffing issues continue to be a major challenge for independent agencies and one way to address these issues is to develop a quality internship program. Internships can be a source of low cost, temporary labor and a recruiting tool for permanent employees. The InVEST Internship Guide provides a framework for creating your own program. To order a free copy of the InVEST Internship Guide (electronic version) contact Sandra Skipper at (800) 221-7917 or sandra.skipper@iiaba.net.
  • Job Shadow Event Planning Materials
National Job Shadow Day begins on Groundhog Day – February 2 – each year.  According to the National Job Shadow Coalition, “Job shadowing is an academically motivating activity designed to give kids an up-close look at the world of work and to answer the question, ‘Why do I have to learn this?’ Beginning with a nationwide kickoff on February 2 and continuing throughout the school year, students across America ‘shadow’ workplace mentors as they go through a normal day on the job. Students get to see firsthand how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace.” St. Paul Travelers has graciously agreed to share their job-shadow planning materials.
  • Greater Hartford Handbook
