Travelers Hosts Successful InVEST Job Shadow Day Connecticut InVEST students gained hands-on experience.
Travelers once again sponsored a job shadow day for three area InVEST schools at their Hartford, Conn. office last month to provide students a firsthand look at the diverse positions available within the insurance industry. “Travelers believes in enhancing insurance education in our schools. This has brought about a great partnership with InVEST,” said Neal Montgomery, director of field management with Travelers and InVEST board member. “We truly enjoy hosting the job shadow event every year. Our hosts often remark that the most rewarding part is seeing what students gain from their hands-on experience.” Students from three schools, Bloomfield High School, East Hartford High School and Hartford Job Corps, all participated in the all day field trip at the downtown Hartford office. Prior to the trip, students were given the opportunity to choose the position they wanted to shadow, which included marketing, sales, planning, underwriting, etc. “Overall, the job shadow was a great experience for me, the shadows, hosts, and guests that attended,” said Avery Fusick, InVEST student and Travelers intern. “The feedback I heard from fellow students was exceptional. Students were excited to see how an insurance company and agency work on the inside.” In addition to the students, Travelers also welcomed three local teachers interested in implementing an InVEST class, Dennis Pillsbury, a reporter for Rough Notes magazine, and Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Thomas Sullivan who provided the keynote address.
