Independent Insurance Agents, Brokers of NY Unveils its Fall Education Schedule

(DeWitt, New York, Aug.
29, 2007) — Beginning in September, the award-winning Education Department of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York, Inc. will offer a wide range of programs for insurance professionals across the Empire State.

Based on member demand, IIABNY created a course on cyber security entitled, “Confidently Confronting Computer Crime by Being Cyber Savvy.” This new seminar offers an insight into cyber crime that protects both the client’s right to privacy and the agency against errors and omissions litigation stemming from electronic security breaches.

Also designed with direct input from IIABNY members is the “Essentials for Customer Service Representatives” program, which is in its pilot phase. Communication Skills, Understanding and Avoiding E&O, Customer Management and Business Skills are only some of the modules that will provide a customized training solution for new customer service representatives.

Other new entries include, “Debunking the Myths of Overseas Exposures,” a course on international insurance, and will provide agents and brokers the tools to identify, quantify and address international property and casualty exposures for their clients. Nationally recognized insurance educator Chris Amrhein, AAI, will introduce, “The Adventures of Ace Insura—Claims Detective,” in a popular case study format. In addition, “Beyond Personal Lines 101” offers two new half-day programs on a variety of intermediate personal lines topics.

Offered statewide is the mandatory three-hour National Flood Insurance Program course, which will fulfill the requirements outlined in New York State Insurance Department Circular Letter 9 (2007).  Another requirement is the New York Automobile Insurance Plan Certification Program, allowing members to comply with the NYAIP mandatory re-certification.

IIABNY offers two nationally recognized insurance professional designation programs—Accredited Customer Service Representative and Accredited Adviser in Insurance. Candidates will earn continuing education credit while working towards a prestigious industry designation.

By taking advantage of E&O coverage through Westport Insurance Corporation or Fireman’s Fund, IIABNY members can qualify for premium reduction on their 2008 renewal by attending the “Best Practices Errors & Omissions Loss Control” seminars. IAAC, IIABNY’s member-services subsidiary, writes E&O policies through the two carriers. Minimizing and eliminating errors and omissions are of the utmost importance to any agency.
