The South Carolina Department of Insurance is the state government agency responsible the regulation of the South Carolina insurance industry. It is charged with the protection of insurance consumers, the public interest, and the insurance marketplace by ensuring the solvency of insurers; by enforcing and implementing the insurance laws of this State; and by regulating the insurance industry in an efficient, courteous, responsive, fair, and equitable manner.
The Department of Insurance is an agency of the Governor's Cabinet and is managed and operated by a Director who is appointed by, and serves at the will of, the Governor upon the advice and consent of the SC Senate.
Throughout our site is information about producer/ broker licensing, continuing education requirements and technical issues such as health insurance reform, the SC Wind Pool, coastal insurance issues and catastrophe savings accounts, but all are regulated through the SCDOI.
The SCDOI website (doi.sc.gov) is the place to go for those looking to renew or update their license, search licensing records, download regulatory bulletins/orders along with a wide variety of online services.
The SC continuing education administrator (Prometric, www.prometric.com/CE/sccprod) website is the place to go for those looking for information about their CE status or pay their CE administration fee.
